This is the part of the house where Mary Queen of Scots lodged in the old Elizabethan house. There were seven rooms in all. Until 1938 they were much used as visitors' rooms. There was only one bathroom to serve them all and it was in the cupboard over the Oak Stairs. |

by Raffaele Monti (1818-1881) Marble, 1847 This is my favorite. She is a lifesized marble sculpture. The veil over her face is so remarkably done. I thought it was carved on the underside. It is so lifelike that I wanted to touch it. I even asked Ron "how did he carve it in two layers?" ...duh! |
